Currently, there are two highly in-demand fiber optic courses available: These are for premises cabling technicians and for fiber optics technicians. The two mentioned are the certifications that the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) offer to those who want to succeed in the fiber optics industry.
If you’re interested in having a career in fiber optics, read on!
Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) Training Course
For general fiber optics jobs, the CFOT is FOA’s certification program. You may undergo this training as long as you know how to use a computer and is fascinated to be a fiber optic technician. However, you may get certified by training at a FOA-approved school like Nexus. When you complete the course, you will learn the knowledge, skills, and abilities— also known as KSAs— in fiber optics. You can then use these KSAs to work in fields related to installing or maintaining fiber optic cable.
Take note that CFOTs are involved usually in the telecomm industry. They do jobs connected to applications that rely on fiber optic cables such as those that provide Internet and telephone for both residential and commercial areas. They are also the ones who do troubleshooting whenever there are connection problems. Aside from these, they also promote other company services and ensure customer satisfaction.
Clients from the European Union and Australia pay the highest salaries for fiber optic technicians. Do you know that an entry level fiber optic technician with up to three years of experience may earn around US$30,000 annually? On the other hand, a veteran tech who’s been in the field for almost a decade usually earn an annual salary of as much as US$70,000.
Certified Premises Cabling Technician (CPCT) Course
FOA’s CPCT certification is aligned with tasks involved in premises cabling networks. Premises cabling are usually private infrastructure or cabling used in schools used in local area networks of computers (LANs), security systems (CCTV and alarms), (DAS for cellular and Wi-Fi), as well as other applications
To be a premises cabling technician, you are qualified to take this course if you are computer literate and have an interest to be a premises cabling technician. After you complete the program, you will be knowledgeable with skills needed for premises cabling and communications networks.
According to FOA, the CPCT course also gives you an excellent grasp on the tasks needed for IT or security personnel such as operations of premises cabling networks. Also, techs who do this tasks are given work as contractors and are responsible for premises cabling maintenance.
